NOTIFICATION

No. DLG-Census/90/2026/06.- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 and section 17A of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948) read with rules 6A and 6D of the Census Rules, 1990 and in supersession of the notification, the Central Government hereby notifies that work relating to houselisting operations of the Census of India 2027 shall be conducted in all States and Union territories in India between 1st April, 2026 and 30th September, 2026 during the period of thirty days specified by each State and Union territory. An option for self-enumeration shall also be made available, which shall be operational for a period of fifteen days, commencing thirty days prior to the start of house-to-house House listing and Housing Census work.
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (3) of Rule 8 of the Census Rules, 1990, made under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), the State Government has decided that the work of the first phase of Census of India 2027 i.e. the houselisting and Housing Census, in the State shall be conducted from 15th May, 2026 to 13th June, 2026. The option for self-enumeration shall be operational from 30th April, 2026 to 14th May 2026.
