GOVERNMENT OF PUNJAB DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES (WORKS BRANCH) NOTIFICATION The 26th August, 2026
No.WR-IRWR04/15/2023-IW3/419.-The Government of Punjab hereby notifies that the proposal for acquisition of land for the project of "Remodelling and Construction of Bhawanigarh Minor-9 from RD 0–18300, off-taking at RD 84700 of Bhawanigarh Distributary" in the revenue estates of Villages Gharachon, Jhaneri/Jhuneri and Batriana, Tehsil Bhawanigarh, District Sangrur, is being processed under the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (hereinafter referred to as the "Act").
That the declaration under Section 19 of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013 was issued vide Notification No. WR-IRWR04/15/2023-IW3/1660 dated 04.07.2025, published in the Punjab Government Gazette on 05.07.2025.
That the Villagers/land owners of village Batriana have filed Civil Writ Petition No. 19336 of 2025, Joginder Singh and others v. State of Punjab in Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. The Hon'ble Court, vide interim order dated 14.07.2024, has directed as under:
"The petitioners would not be dispossessed till the next date of hearing."
In view of the aforesaid interim order passed by the Hon'ble High Court, the award in respect of the land situated in Village Batriana has not yet been announced. However, the awards in respect of the land situated in Villages Gharachon and Jhaneri/Jhuneri have been announced by the concerned Land Acquisition Collector-cum-SDM, Bhawanigarh, and the same have been approved by the Government of Punjab, Department of Water Resources, vide Letter No. WR-IRWR04/15//2023-IW3/I/1333620/2026 dated 03.03.2026.
Whereas the award in respect of the land situated in Village Batriana could not be made within the period prescribed under Section 25 of the Act due to the aforesaid circumstances, the Government of 3766 PUNJAB GOVT. GAZ. (EXTRA), AUGUST 27, 2026 (BHDR 5, 1948 SAKA) Punjab, being the Appropriate Government under the Act, and being satisfied that sufficient cause exists for extending the said period, hereby extends the period prescribed under Section 25 of the Act by a further period of six (6) months for making the award in respect of the land situated in Village Batriana. This notification is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
