BIENNIAL ELECTIONS TO THE TELANGANA STATE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL FROM HYDERABAD LOCAL AUTHORITIES' CONSTITUENCY - NOTIFICATION UNDER SECTION 16 OF THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE ACT, 1951 (43 OF 1951) BY THE GOVERNOR OF TELANGANA.

The following Notification is published in the Telangana State Gazette, dated 25th February, 2019 / Phalguna 06, 1940 (Saka).
NOTIFICATION
WHEREAS, the seat of one member of the Legislative Council of the State of Telangana, elected from the Hyderabad Local Authorities' Constituency, is due to fall vacant on the retirement of the sitting member Sri. M.S. Prabhakar Rao, on 1st May, 2019, on the expiration of his term of office; and
WHEREAS, a biennial election has to be held for the purpose of filling the above said vacancy so arising;
WHEREAS, the term of office of the member to be elected to the State Legislative Council from the said Local Authorities' Constituency shall be subject to the decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in SLP (C) No. 17123/2015 (Election Commission of India Vs Devesh Chandra Thakur and others);
NOW, THEREFORE, as recommended by the Election Commission of India in pursuance of section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Governor of the State of Telangana is hereby pleased to call upon the said Constituency, to elect one member to the Legislative Council of the State, for the purpose of filling the above said vacancy, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder.
