APPOINTMENT OF DOWRY PROHIBITION OFFICERS UNDER SECTION 8 (B) OF THE ACT, 1961.

In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 8-B of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (Act No. 28 of 1961), Government hereby appoints the District Welfare Officers, Women, Children, Disabled & Senior Citizens as Dowry Prohibition Officers at District Level and the Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) as Dowry Prohibition Officers within their respective jurisdictions in place of Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs) / Sub-Collectors in the State of Telangana with immediate effect.
The aforesaid officers shall discharge the duties and responsibilities prescribed under sub-section (2) of Section 8-B of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 in addition to their existing duties as Protection Officers under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 prescribed vide G.O.Ms.No. 48, Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens (Schemes.I) Department, dt: 18.8.2021.

In the circumstances reported by the Director, Women Development & Child Welfare Department, Hyderabad and in compliance with the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in M.A. Diary Nos. 2689-2690/2025 in Criminal Appeal Nos. 132-133/2017 titled State of Uttar Pradesh Vs. Ajmal Beg Etc., Government hereby appoints the Joint Director (Schemes), O/o the Director, Women Development & Child Welfare Department, Telangana as Chief Dowry Prohibition Officer for effective coordination with all District Dowry Prohibition Officers.
