Act, 2020.
IT IS HEREBY enacted in the Seventy-fourth Year of the Republic of India as
followes :–
1. (1) This Act may be called the Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Short title and commencement Prayagraj (Amendment), Act, 2023.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from July 10, 2023.
General
2. In the Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Prayagraj Act, 2020, for
Amendment of the words "Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Prayagraj", wherever occurring
U.P. Act no. 26 including the headings, preamble, short title, long title, the words "Dr. Rajendra Prasad
of 2020
National Law University, Prayagraj" shall be substituted.
U.P. ordinance Repeal and saving 3. (1) The Uttar Pradesh National Law University,
no. 11 of 2023 Prayagraj (Amendment), Ordinance, 2023 is hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any
action taken under the provisions of the principal Act as amended by
the Ordinance referred to in sub-section (1) shall be deemed to have
been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of the
principal Act, as amended by this Act, as if the provisions of this
Act, were in force at all material times.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
The Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Prayagraj Act, 2020 (U.P. Act no. 26 of 2020) has been enacted to provide for the establishment and incorporation of a State Law University at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to be known as the Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Prayagraj, for the purposes of advancement of cause of learning, teaching and research, and diffusion of knowledge in the field of law and also to cater to the needs of the society by developing professional skills of persons intending to take up advocacy, judicial service, law officers/managers and legislative drafting as their profession and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
4 mRrj izns'k vlk/kkj.k xtV] 17 vxLr] 2023 In order to name the aforesaid University after the country's first President, Dr. RajendraPrasad, it was decided to amend the aforesaid Act to change the name of Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Prayagraj to "Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University, Prayagraj."
Since the State Legislature was not in session and immediate legislative action was necessary to implement the aforesaid decision, the Uttar Pradesh National Law University, Prayagraj (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023 (U.P. Ordinance no. 11 of 2023) was promulgated by the Governor on July 10, 2023.
This Bill is introduced to replace the aforesaid Ordinance.
