NOTIFICATION
WHEREAS, The Election Commission has announced, inter-alia, the schedule for bye-election to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from 09 Assembly constituencies namely, 16-Meerapur, 29-Kundarki, 71-Khair (SC), 56-Ghaziabad, 110-Karhal, 213-Sishamau, 256-Phulpur, 277-Katehari, 397-Majhawan AC vide its Press Note No. ECI/PN/150/2024 dated 15th October, 2024 (Tuesday); and 2. WHEREAS, election notifications for these 09 Assembly Constituencies were issued under Section 30, 56 and 150 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 on 18th October, 2024(Friday), thereby fixing 13th November, 2024 as the date of poll in these 09 Assembly Constituencies; and
3. WHEREAS, in the meantime, representations have been received from National and other political parties regarding postponement of the date of poll to a later date, due to large scale social, cultural and religious engagements of the general public on the date of poll in the districts involved in the ongoing bye-elections from the state; and
4. WHEREAS, the District Election Officers of the bye-election bound districts in their reports have also conveyed that such large scale social, cultural and religious engagements, may cause inconvenience to a large number of persons, involving various logistic issues, which may eventually lead to lesser voter participation in these elections; and
5. WHEREAS, having considered all aspects of the matter, the Commission has decided to reschedule the date of Poll for aforementioned 09 Assembly Constituencies;
6. NOW, THEREFORE, in view of the above, the Election Commission, in exercise of the powers available to it under Section 21 of the General Clauses Act, 1897, hereby makes following amendment in 2 mÙkj çns'k vlk/kkj.k xtV] 7 uoEcj] 2024 each of its notification No. 100/UP-LA/5/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/6/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/7/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/8/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/9/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/10/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/11/2024, No. 100/UP-LA/12/2024 and No. 100/UP-LA/13/2024 all dated 18.10.2024: sub-para (d) of para (B) of the aforementioned notifications shall be substituted with
"(d) the 20th November, 2024 (Wednesday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary be taken;."
