THE State Government has decided to implement a ropeway project in Varanasi city for providing public transport facilities. For the implementation of the project, the State Government has authorized National Highways Logistics Management Limited.

Under section 19 of the United Provinces Aerial Ropeways Act, 1922 (U.P. Act no. 1 of 1922), there is a provision for determination of tariff rates for transportation of passengers, animals, or goods. Accordingly, for determination and implementation of tariff rates for the ropeway/cable car project in Varanasi city, a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of the Commissioner, Varanasi Division, Varanasi, vide Office Memorandum no. 1093/(I/1191626/2025)/Eight-7-2025 dated December 31, 2025 issued by Housing and Urban Planning Section-7, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

As per the decision taken in the meeting of the said committee held on February 11, 2026, the following tariff rates are hereby notified: (A) Tariff Rates for Trip Fare–

(ii) Tariff rates for Kashi Smart Pass holders (20% discount, inclusive of GST):

(iii) Annual Increase in Tariff:

The above tariff rates shall be increased by 5% every year on April 1, rounded off to the nearest multiple of ₹ 5. This increase shall be automatically effective on a cumulative basis from April 1 each year.

Explanation: For example, in respect of tariff rates of ₹ 20 and ₹ 50, the annual increase shall be calculated as follows:–

(a) For tariff ₹ 20: After a 5% increase, the amount becomes ₹ 21; however, the tariff shall be fixed at ₹ 25. Similarly, for tariff ₹ 50: After a 5% increase, the amount becomes ₹ 52.50; however, the tariff shall be fixed at ₹ 55. (b) For the second year: For tariff ₹ 25: After a 5% increase, the amount becomes ₹ 26.25; however, the tariff shall be fixed at ₹ 30. Similarly, for tariff ₹ 55: After a 5% increase, the amount becomes ₹ 57.75; however, the tariff shall be fixed at ₹ 60.

The same method shall be applied for annual increase of all other tariff rates. (B) Tariff for Cloak Room–

At Varanasi Cantt. Ropeway Station, the cloak room charges for ticket holders shall be as follows:– 1. First 2 hours - Free of cost; 2. Thereafter, ₹ 50 per hour for luggage up to 15 kg (maximum up to 48 hours); 3. After 48 hours, the luggage shall be categorized as "Lost and Found" and disposed of accordingly.

(C) Kashi Smart Pass–

Kashi Smart Pass holders shall be entitled to a 20% discount on the notified one-time tariff for travel. (D) Premium Gondola–

1. Tariff for premium gondola shall be ₹ 2000.00 per gondola per trip. 2. If any individual, firm, or institution wishes to reserve a gondola in bulk, such facility shall also be permitted. For this, the tariff shall be ₹ 1200.00 per gondola per trip.
