DE/Plng/GSER 1986.Amendment/2025/70/2510 Date: 28-Mar-2025 Whereas, the draft Rules, namely, the Goa School Education (Amendment) Rules, 2025 which the Government of Goa proposed to make in exercise of the powers conferred by section 29 of the Goa School Education Act, 1984 (Goa Act 15 of 1985) and were pre-published as required by sub section (1) of section 29 of the said Act vide the Government Notification No. DE/Plng/GSER1986.Amendment/2025/70 dated 12/03/2025, of the Directorate of Education, in the Official Gazette, Series I No.50, dated 13/03/2025 and Corrigendum thereof bearing No. DE/Plng/GSER1986. Amendment/2025/70/2429 dated 17/03/2025, in the Official Gazette, Series I, No.51 dated 20/03/2025, inviting objections and suggestions from all persons likely to be affected thereby within a period of 15 days from the date of publication of the said Notification in the Official Gazette.

And whereas the said Official Gazette was made available to the public on 13/03/2025;

And whereas the objections, recommendations and suggestions were received from the public on the said draft and after due consideration of the same, following rules have been considered to be published by the Government.

Now therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 29 of the Goa School Education Act, 1984 (Goa Act 15 of 1985) and all other powers enabling it in this behalf, the Government of Goa hereby makes the following rules so as to further amend the Goa School Education Rules, 1986, namely: —

1. Short title and commencement. — (1) These rules may be called, the Goa School Education (Amendment) Rules, 2025. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. Suggestions are welcomed on e-mail: [email protected] 2183 OFFICIAL GAZETTE — GOVT. Amendment of rule 21.- In rule 21 of the Goa School Education Rules, 1986, in sub-rule (2), for clauses (iii), (iv) and (v); the following clauses shall be substituted, namely: -

"(iii) The academic year for Class I to V and Class XI shall ordinarily commence from June and shall end in April.

(iv) The academic year for Class VI to X and Class XII shall ordinarily commence from April and shall end in March:

Provided that there shall be a break of one week between the end of the academic year and the beginning of the new academic year for this category.

(v) The academic year may be suitably divided into terms by the Director of Education, by issuing an order in that behalf.

(vi) There shall be a summer vacation of five weeks for all classes from 1st of May for such a period as may be specified by the Director of Education. There shall be a break of three weeks in the month of October or November and/or both, to fit in with the Diwali Festival.

(vii) The Director of Education may declare a break of not more than one week for Ganesh Festival:

Provided that loss of actual working days on account of this break shall be made good by proportionately reducing the discretionary holidays.

(viii) There shall be a Christmas vacation for the period from 24th December to 2nd January of every year".
