7. आप 1953 , 1955 , 1956, 1958 , 1959 , 1960 और 1961 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा , जेनेवा में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम सम्मेलन के 42वें सत्र ( 1958 ) तथा वियना में अन्तर- संसदीय सम्मेलन ( 1978 ) मेंविभिन्न भारतीय प्रतिनिधि मंडलों के सदस्य रहे । आप 1955 से 1979 तक संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रशासनिक अधिकरण के सदस्य और वर्ष 1968 से 1979 तक इसके अध्यक्ष रहे ।
8. आप विभिन्न क्षमताओं में अनेक संस्थाओं से संबद्ध रहे । आप निम्नलिखित उत्कृष्ट संस्थाओं के अध्यक्ष और सभापति रहे :-
(i ) अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सद्भाव के लिए जवाहरलाल नेहरू पुरस्कार हेतु निर्णायक मण्डल;
(ii) शान्ति, निरस्त्रीकरण एवं विकास के लिए इंदिरा गांधी पुरस्कार हेतु अंतर्राष्ट्रीय निर्णायक मण्डल;
(iii) भारतीय सांस्कृतिक संबंध परिषद्; और
(iv) भारतीय लोक प्रशासन संस्थान ।
9. आपने मद्रास विश्वविद्यालय से विधि में डॉक्टरेट ( हॉनरिस कौसा) की उपाधि और नागार्जुन विश्वविद्यालय से विधि में डॉक्टरेट (हॉनरिस कौसा) की उपाधि प्राप्त की । आप मद्रास मेडिकल कॉलेज के मानद् फैलो डॉक्टर ऑफ सोशल साइंसेज , रुड़की विश्वविद्यालय; वर्दमान विश्वविद्यालय से डॉक्टर ऑफ लॉ (हॉनरिस कौसा) रहे ।
10. आपको स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में भाग लेने के लिए ताम्र- पत्र प्रदान किया गया और समाजवादी देशों की श्री कामराज द्वारा की गई यात्रा पर यात्रा- वृतांत लिखने के लिए सोवियत लैंड पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया । आपको कौंची कामकोटि पीठ के गुरु शंकराचार्य द्वारा " सत्सेवा रत्न " की उपाधि दी गई ।
11. आपके निधन से राष्ट्र ने एक वरिष्ठ राजनेता , संसद-विद् और महान् नैतिकतावादी व्यक्ति खो दिया है जिन्हें देश के प्रति अगाध प्रेम और लोगों के प्रति चिरस्थायी अनुराग के लिए जाना जाता है ।
मधुकर गुप्ता, सचिव Defence . Shri Venkataraman was elected Vice-President of India and served in this position from August 31 , 1984 till he assumed the office ofthe President of India inJuly,1987.
7. Shri Venkataraman had been a member of various Indian delegations to the United Nations General Assembly in 1953, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1961; 42nd Session of the International Labour Conference at Geneva (1958) ; and the Inter Parliamentary Conference in Vienna (1978) . He was also Member , UnitedNations Administrative Tribunal from 1955 to 1979 and was its President from 1968 to 1979 .
8. Shri Venkataraman had also been associated with several institutions in diverse capacities . He was Chairman andPresident of the following institutions of excellence:-
(1) Jury for the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding;
(ii) International Jury for the Indira Gandhi Prize forPeace, Disarmament and Development;
(iii) Indian Council for Cultural Relations ; and
(iv) Indian Institute of PublicAdministration .
9. Shri Venkataraman received Doctorate ofLaw (Honoris Causa) from University of Madras, the Doctorate of Law (Honoris Causa) from Nagarjuna University. He was Honorary Fellow, Madras Medical College; Doctor of Social Sciences, University of Roorkee; Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) from University ofBurdwan.
10. Hewas awarded Tamra Patra forparticipation inthe Freedom Struggle , the Soviet Land Prize for his travelogue on Shri Kamraj's visit to the Socialist countries . The title of " Sat Seva Ratna " has been conferred on him by His Holiness the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham .
11. In the death ofShri Venkataraman , the Nation has lost an elder Statesman, Parliamentarian and a person ofgreat moral caliber , known alike for his deep love for the country and abiding affection for his people.
