Method of producing carbon molecular sieves ( CMS) 101 separation of oxygen and nitrogen, said method comprising the steps of air oxidising a finely ground hardcoal grounded to a size of 95 % < 20 µm in a fluidized bed, blending said oxidized coal with tarpitch binder and water for moulding , subjecting the product so obtained to carbonization at a low temperature in the range of from 500 ° to 850°C with the residence time of from 55 minutes to 65 minutes in order to attain a bulk weight in the range of from 530 to 560 g/ 1, subjecting said low carbonization product obtained from the previous step to steam activation at a temperature in the range of from 800 ° C to 900° C for 165 minutes until by the action of steam gasification and sintering, a bulk weight in the range of from 590 to 650 g/ l is attained and final treatment of the weakly activated preliminary product with carbon cracking hydrocarbons at a temperature in the range of from 750° C to 850°C.
