(G.O. Ms. No. 01/Fy./432, Puducherry, dated 10th April 2023) NOTIFICATION Whereas, the Government of India, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Department of Fisheries vide Order No. 30035/15/97-FY (T-1)/Ind., dated 30-03-2023, has imposed a uniform ban on fishing by all fishing vessels in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) beyond territorial waters on the East Coast and West Coast for the year 2023, for conservation and effective management of Fishery Resources and also for sea safety reasons. 2. And whereas, in consonance with the above direction and in exercise of the powers conferred under section 4 (i) (a), read with section 4 (2) (a) & (b) of the Puducherry Marine Fishing Regulation [755]

Act, 2008 (Act No. 6 of 2008), in regard to the need to conserve marine fishery wealth and to regulate fishing on a scientific basis, the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry, implements this ban period in the territorial waters of the Union territory of Puducherry.

3. Now, further, the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry, is pleased to authorised the Secretary to Government (Fisheries) to prohibit the fishing activities within the territorial waters of the Union territory of Puducherry by issuing Notices in the local newspapers on imposition of the above ban on fishing on the region specified in Column (2), of the below Table by class of fishing vessels mentioned in Column (3) during the period specified in Column (4) of the Table given below:-

4. This notification shall take with immediate effect.
